The "Prangstangentragen" is one of the special customs of the province of Salzburg and is located in the two Lungau communities Muhr and Zederhaus. Prangstangen are 6-8 meter long, barked wooden poles, which are wound with flower garlands. For a pole, around 40,000 (!) Flowers and 300 man-hours are needed. There are various theories about the origin of the Prangstangen. According to oral tradition, the Prangstangen go back to a vow made by the population because of a locust plague. Wearing the poles is a privilege of unmarried boys. The procession lasts up to two hours. After the parade, the Prangstangen are carried to the church, where they remain until 15 August - the "High Women's Day" - in the aisle next to the knee benches.
