The Corpus Christi festival has its historical roots in the 12th century. In Hallstatt, at the foot of the Dachstein and narrowed by the lake in a small space, the local Corpus Christi procession was first mentioned in 1623 in a document. The peculiarity of the move in Hallstatt is that it is held on the lake by means of large grooves (Mutzen). To emphasize is the everlasting foundation of the festival by the salt mining, which was established in 1628. The festivities will begin with a Mass in the parish and pilgrimage church "Our Lady on the Mountain", from where the procession to the four Blessing Stations sets in motion. At the end of the procession, the final blessing is given in the church and a solemn Tedeum is celebrated.
