Especially in southern Burgenland, but also in parts of Styria and Carinthia, in the Upper Inn Valley and in the Lungau on Carnival Sunday or Monday the custom of "bloch pulling" maintained. The focus is on the Bloch (a branch-free, decorated tree trunk of respectable length), which is brought in a solemn procession from the forest in the village. Originally, this custom was intended as a punishment for boys and girls, if in the respective place for a year (from Carnival to Carnival), no wedding had taken place. The "Bloch" is the bride in this wedding parody, in which all protagonists of a wedding party, such as Groom or groomsmen, participate.
