For centuries, the Almabtrieb is festively committed as an integral part of rural customs. In the entire Alpine region, but especially in the area around Zell am Ziller, this tradition is cultivated. On the 1st Sunday in October, the decorated cattle will return from their pastures to their home stables. The so-called Moarkuh (the guide cow) leads to the decorated with flowers, ribbons, panels and sacred tablets train. Only if there have been misfortune or deaths in the cattle or a death in the family, eliminates this jewelry. After the line are cattle, calves, bulls, young oxen and small cattle such as sheep and goats. Tens of thousands of visitors from home and abroad experience this peasant festival every year.
