On October 22, 1883, the first stretch of the electric local railway Mödling-Hinterbrühl was opened to traffic with the approximately 1.5 km long section Mödling-Bahnhof-Klausen. Thus, the first, serving as a public transport, electric train of Austria had taken up the operation. It was also one of the first in the world to be in continuous operation. Thousands of people at that time flocked to the Wienerwald town of Mödling to admire the new railway. Soon, other sections were passable. Thus, on 6 April 1884, the line Klausen-Vorderbrühl and on July 14, 1885, the last section Vorderbrühl-Hinterbrühl be put into operation. Thus, the total route length was 4.5 km. The k.k.priv. Südbahngesellschaft was a great success with this advanced system. In particular, the energetic, also commercially extremely successful General Manager of the Southern Railway Company, Friedrich Julius Schüler, had been active in the construction of this railway. Already on October 7, 1883 he was awarded by the municipal committee of the city Mödling the honorary citizenship of the city. The brand image shows the railcar no. 5, built in 1883, which was used from the beginning on this route.
