Important Personalities, Edition 1970 The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six special postage stamps with illustrations of important personalities. No special first-day cover letter Kurt TUCHOLSKY, a left-wing bourgeois writer and journalist, was born on January 9, 1890 in Berlin, the son of a middle-class family. He studied law in Jena. Through the experiences of the First World War, he became an antimilitarist and hoped that the November Revolution would fundamentally change social conditions in Germany. Outraged by the resurgence of reaction he lived since 1921 mostly in France and Sweden. In the leftist weekly magazine "Die Weltbühne" he opposed militarism, clericalism, class justice, racial hatred and fascism. The revolutionary labor movement had a lasting influence on Kurt Tucholsky. He published poems in the Arbeiter-Illustrierte-Zeitung (AIZ), which belong to the stock of socialist German national literature. Also known are his cheerful idylls such as "Rheinsberg - A picture book for lovers" and "Gripsholm Castle". In 1933, Kurt Tucholsky emigrated to Sweden, where he put an end to his life on December 21, 1935 in Hindus near Gothenburg.
