Important Personalities, Edition 1970 The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six special postage stamps with illustrations of important personalities. No special first-day cover letter Johann GUTENBERG, actually Johannes Gensfleisch for Gutenberg, was probably born in Mainz between 1394 and 1399. As a member of the Mainzer patrician family Gensfleisch named after his home "Zum Gutenberg", he went to the victory of the guilds over the old city dynasties to Strasbourg. Since about 1436 he was engaged in experiments that led to the construction of a printing press and a hand pouring instrument for the production of letters. After 1444 he returned to Mainz and completed his invention of printing with movable metal types. In 1455 he finished the printing of the so-called Gutenberg Bible, a typographic masterpiece. Thus, the way was open to duplicate written communications according to the needs of the unfolding merchandise management and sciences. Johann Gutenberg died on February 3, 1468 in Mainz.
