Important personalities The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues special postage stamps with illustrations of important personalities. HANNS EISLER, progressive composer, was born on July 6, 1898 in Leipzig. In the time of fascism he emigrated to the USA. In 1948 he returned to Berlin, became a founding member of the German Academy of Arts and received in 1950 for the national anthem of the GDR created with Johannes R. Becher and the National Prize for the "New German Folk Songs". Important for the development of Hanns Eisler was the collaboration with Bertolt Brecht, who came from stage music, cantatas and songs. For his entire work, Hanns Eisler received the 1958 National Prize I. Class. He died on September 6, 1962 in Berlin.
