After five successful art historical exhibitions, the Kunsthalle Leoben, in cooperation with the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, presents the culture of Japan at the time of the Shogune from April 12 to November 2, 2003. In the opposite poles Samurai and Geisha, symbols of love and death, reflects the refined Japan's way of life in the past centuries. At the center of the exhibition are two opposing worlds - the warrior caste of the samurai and the rich urban merchant class. Valuable exhibits from renowned international museums demonstrate these two societies in all their facets and aspects. Impressive samurai armor, swords, helmets, lances and rifles show historical Japan from the warlike perspective. Masterful woodcuts, magnificent garments and musical instruments document the "flowing world" of the Ukiyo. In addition to the remarkable objects from historic Japan, a replica of a Japanese tea house and a rock garden make the exhibition a special experience.
