European toadstools The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues eight multi-colored special postage stamps with pictures of European toadstools. European toadstools As early as 1954, the Ministry of Health of the GDR recommended and organized targeted educational work in the field of mycology in view of the then high number of annually occurring fungal poisoning and the incipient development of camping. The districts of the GDR each employ a fungal expert at their hygiene institutes. From there, the district and local representatives for mushroom education, who are volunteers at the district hygiene inspections, trained as employees. The mission of the Mushroom Enlightenment Commissioner is to protect the population from poisoning during fixed consultation times, exhibitions, hikes, lectures and market inspections, and to provide prompt and prudent investigative work in the event of poisoning. So far, this educational work has been very successful. 5 Pfennig value: Giant reddish (Rhodophyllus sinuatus) He is a strong, thick-fleshed mushroom, whose Hutkhauthaut first of all ivory-yellow, later leather-brownish looks. The lamellae are first yellowish, then reddish. It is found in May on hard, loamy soil under deciduous trees. It is less common in northern Europe, more common in southwestern Europe. It causes severe indigestion. 10 Pfennig value: Satanic mushroom (Bolletus satanas) The Satanus mushroom can reach a considerable size. His hat is upholstered, off-white with green shimmer. Tube mouths brightly dark red, on the yellowish, very thick stem is a finely tuned crimson belt zone. It grows only on pending lime and is often confused with the edible fungi. The Satanspilz is not one of the most dangerous toadstools, but it causes severe indigestion. 15 Pfennig value: Panther mushroom (Amanita pantherina) This brownish-brown slender mushroom with pleasant nutty taste always has a grooved hat edge and never a grooved cuff. The slender white stem is stuck in the tuber as if grafted. It grows in pine, mixed and deciduous forests. Great possibility of confusion with the squat amanita and the pearl mushroom, both are edible. Twenty minutes to two hours after ingestion of the meal, the panther mushroom causes heavy intoxication that can degenerate into fits of rage and sink into deep sleep. Most mushroom poisoning in the GDR is caused by it. 20 Pfennig value: Toadstool (Amanita muscaria) With its bright red hat, this beautiful mushroom is well known to everyone. There are brown subspecies that are equally poisonous. In late autumn, he is often found on the hat without the familiar white polka dots. He is sometimes confused with edible red daggers. The fly agaric shows the same poisoning picture as the Pantherpilz. 25-pfennig-value: Spring-colored Sycamore (Gyromitra esculenta) It can be found in the spring on clear-cuts in pine forests. It is usually mistakenly called "morel" and eaten as such, despite warnings and sales ban. By no means does every meal lead to illness. However, every year severe poisoning occurs, which leads to profuse vomiting 2-8-12 hours after ingestion and often leads to diarrhea. The toxins are harmful to the circulation and the liver. Deaths occur every year. 30 Pfennig value: Brick-red Risspilz (Inocybe patouillardii) This yellowish, gradually brick-red starting mushroom grows in May on calcareous soils (also on lime-fertilized) under deciduous trees in parks and gardens. The quite tasty meal causes severe poisoning after twenty minutes to two hours: strong salivation, sweating, narrowing of the pupils, muscle twitching, vomiting (pure muscarinic poisoning). 35 Pfennig Value: Green Tuberous Toadstool (Amanita phalloides) It is the most dangerous of all mushrooms. Its color nuances range from pure white to deep olive green. The most striking feature is the white, upright bag, which encloses the tuber at the stem base and is often hidden in old foliage (oak, beech). It is not only because of its special toxins because of so dangerous, but also because the symptoms of intoxication (insatiable vomiting diarrhea) occur only eight to thirty hours after taking the meal, the poison is already long in the bloodstream and from there u.a. cause the most severe organic damage, especially to the liver. Despite modern medical treatments, the number of deaths from tuber-tree mushrooms is high every year. There is a possibility of confusion with mushroom types and greenhouses, therefore its characteristics are always to be considered. 40 Pfennig Value: Field Funnelling (Clitocybe dealbata) This small white mushroom is found on rickety branches. It is easily confused with the edible fungus. The field funnelling and other small funnels cause as pure Muscarinträger the same symptoms of intoxication as the brick red Risspilz.
