Cross-border cooperation in the Saar-Lor-Lux region, the core region of Europe, is old and narrow. The clearest external signs are the regular peaks of the Greater Saar-Lor-Lux region. The third summit will take place on October 22, 1997 at Castle Manderen in Lorraine. It is again home to the Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Prime Ministers of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, the Presidents of the Regional Council of Lorraine and the General Councils of Meurthe-et-Moselle and Moselle, the Prime Minister of Wallonia and the Prime Minister of the German-speaking Community of Belgium , Meanwhile, a Greater Region Economic and Social Committee has been set up to submit its first report to the next summit. Of the many interregional committees, a few examples are mentioned here: the Saar-Lor-Lux-Trier / Westpfalz Regional Commission, the Interregional Parliamentary Council, Euregio, the Association of Local Authorities of the Greater Region, the Interregional Council of Chambers of Crafts, the Interregional Working Group of Chambers of Commerce and Industry , the Charte de Coopération, which consists of 15 colleges and university-like institutions with currently a total of 100,000 students. IPI (interregional press - press interrégionale) is the association of independent professional journalists of the Greater Region, there is a Saar-Lor-Lux-University orchestra, Saar-Lor-Lux-Jugendtheatertage regularly take place, and athletes of the Greater Region have a few months ago a charter signed. The Greater Saar-Lor-Lux region has become a model for the Europe of tomorrow. (Text: State Chancellery Saarland)
