European edible mushrooms With the images of European edible mushrooms, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues six multicolored special postage stamps. After a series of European toadstools came out in 1974, a series with images of six edible mushroom species is now coming out. These species are predominantly those that occur in almost all of Europe and, because of their good durability, are also traded across national borders. 20 Pfennig value: Marone (Xerocomus badius) This medium sized mushroom mushroom has a dark brown hat top skin, whose color reminds of the Eßkastanie, also called Marone. The tubes are pale yellow in youth, later greenish and usually turn blue when printed. The bulbous stalk is later cylindrical. Its basic color is yellowish and overshadowed to the stem end. The chestnut occurs predominantly in the coniferous forest from June to November. It is very tasty, but should not be eaten raw. In the large pine forests of Central and Eastern Europe, it appears in masses in some years, so that it is next to chanterelle and mushroom to the most important market fungi, which is offered mainly processed as a dried mushroom.
