Special cancellations from February 20 to April 19, 1990 Historical Model 90-Pfennig value: Otto Lilienthal 1848-1896 In 1889, engineer Otto Lilienthal published measurements of wing profiles and model tests in his book "Der Vogelflug als Basis the fly art ". In the summer of 1891 he made the first man at Derwitz Krielow (Potsdam district) gliding. Based on theoretical knowledge, he constructed numerous aircraft and reached heights of 250 meters. Lilienthal was one of the world's leading aviation technology leaders of his time. His Berlin machine factory became the first aircraft factory due to the serial production of his normal sailing apparatus. In 1894 he wrote that he had "made the development of a cultural element into a task of life, which is supposed to work in a country-bounding and reconciling way". His work was suddenly interrupted when he died in a flight accident in 1896. From Otto Lilienthal many impulses went out to the aviation development: "The most important invention of the last years in the area of the aviation is the flying apparatus of the German engineer Otto Lilienthal" wrote for example the Russian aviation scientist Nicolai Shukowski in the year 1895.
