The Postscheckamt Frankfurt am Main was one of the thirteen postal check offices that took over the postal money transfer service on January 1, 1909, that is, over 80 years ago. Frankfurt was Börsenplatz and already at that time a large economic and financial center in Germany. During the Second World War, the booking operation continued under today's barely imaginable conditions. On March 17, 1945, the entire postal service came to a halt, but already on May 24 of the same year, the booking operation was resumed. The currency reform of 1948 was the cornerstone for a new beginning. The number of accounts grew steadily. The 200,000. Participants could be welcomed in 1957. The continuous increase in postal payments was neither physically nor personally manageable with the existing mechanical booking machines. Thus smaller computer plants were used and parts of the enterprise were shifted 1971 to Marburg and Fulda. In 1972, the conversion of the account management to a data processing system could be started in Frankfurt. During the laying of the computer lines, construction defects were encountered, which were due to wartime and lack of building material during reconstruction. At the end of the seventies, for example, the Federal Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications decided to build a new building on Eckenheimer Landstraße. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary and the renaming of the Postscheckdienstes in the contemporary name "Postgirodienst" also the postal check office Frankfurt am Main on 1 January 1984 became the "Postgiroamt". The year before, on February 28, 1983, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of the Postgiroamt Frankfurt, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on April 26, 1984. In July and August 1986, the new building could then be moved. At the banking center in Frankfurt am Main, a building of the Deutsche Bundespost was created that sets a special, forward-looking accent.
