The countries of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) decided at the Seventh General Assembly of the CEPT, which took place in The Hague from 11 to 22 September 1972, to discuss the drafts of the 1975 European Trademarks To use "painting" as a basis. On its European stamps in 1975, the Deutsche Bundespost shows two paintings by Oskar Schlemmer, »Concentric Group« (40 Pfennig) and »Bauhaus Staircase« (50 Pfennig). The painter, sculptor and stage designer Oskar Schlemmer was born on 4 September 1888 in Stuttgart. He died on April 14, 1943 in Baden-Baden. From 1920 to 1929 he taught at the Bauhaus in the fields of sculpture and stage workshop, until 1932 at the Wroclaw and until 1933 at the Berlin Academy. In his paintings, sculptures and especially in stage dance, Schlemmer sought to portray and arrange the human being's existence through abstracted figurines, through their relationship in and to the space. His effort to integrate the arts became groundbreaking for the ensuing period.
