The European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) selects, for each year, a Europareken draft, which is available to members for the joint issue. The common European brands are therefore the same in motif. However, they differ in the currency and the designation of the issuing country. The draft for the Europe stamps 1970 was selected by the CEPT commission »Post« in an extraordinary meeting on January 25, 1968 in Villars sur Ollon in Switzerland. The joint drafts for the Europe stamps of 1969 and 1971 were also chosen at this meeting. The press release issued at the end of the session indicates that a draft submitted by the Icelandic Postal Administration will be completed in 1971. The fibers appearing in the motif represent the members of the CEPT whose cooperation and integration are symbolized by the wickerwork. The sun-shaped symbol is reminiscent of the broadcasting of the postal and telecommunications services. A circular sent out by the Secretariat of the CEPT before the publication of the Europa stamps in 1970 indicates that, in addition to the Federal Republic of Germany, the 17 member administrations listed below will issue one or more European stamps in 1970 using the common motive chosen by the CEPT. These administrations are: Belgium, Cyprus, Spain, France, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Switzerland, Turkey and Yugoslavia. The administrations of Austria, Denmark, Finland, Malta, Norway, the United Kingdom, Sweden and the Vatican State have indicated that they will not participate in the publication in 1970. The annual publication of the Europa stamps has been set since 1967 on the Monday preceding 5 May. Therefore, in 1970, the date of publication falls on Monday, May 4. The administrations of Greece and Liechtenstein are not in a position to comply with this recommendation. Greece will issue the Europa stamp in 1970 during the second half of April, Liechtenstein on April 30.
