The common outline for the European brands 1965 of the countries of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications (CEPT) was selected by the postal administrations involved in the Extraordinary Meeting of the Commission "Post" on 15 February 1965 in Lisbon. The choice fell on a motive proposed by the postal administration of Iceland, a creation of the Icelandic artist Hoerdur Karlsson. It represents a branch with three leaves bearing a fruit symbolizing the cooperation of the PTT administrations in the CEPT. There is a decision that the drafts of the countries involved in the selection are not published.
