The common design for the European stamps in 1962 with the motif of a young tree with 19 leaves was selected by the participating postal administrations of the countries of the European Conference for Post and Telecommunications (CEPT) on March 16, 1962 in Bonn. It is a work of the luxembourgish graphic artist Lex Weyer. The tree symbolizes the common aspirations of the CEPT. The 19 sheets correspond to the 19 countries whose postal and telecommunications administrations belong to the CEPT. The drafts underlying the selection will not be published following a decision by the participating countries.
