The increasing pollution of the oceans by industry, shipping, agriculture, air traffic and sewage of the communities destroys the habitat of many animal and plant species. The deliberately progressive exploitation of the oceans daily decimates the (still) existing biodiversity there. The publication of the special stamp "For the protection of the environment" (Protects the coasts and seas) should help to maintain the awareness for the preservation of our maritime environment. The knock-on revenues will flow primarily into environmental education projects of associations in Germany and abroad.
