Nursing, a profession as old as humanity itself: The first care and healing measures people have "copied" the animals. Experiences with the healing effect of herbs were collected and passed on by women. Findings from early civilizations give us information about the care and the persons who practiced it: in Egypt, there were servants, in ancient Greece, the disciples of the doctors, slaves in ancient Rome. Christianity had a lasting influence on attitudes towards the sick, on nursing and on serving. From this spirit developed the monastery medicine. But it was also Christianity that discredited the nursing of women by the madness of witch-hunts. By obscure attempts to oblige people who had come into conflict with the law to the nursing profession, there was a further decline. There was a lack of knowledge and the desire to really help. Only in the second half of the nineteenth century was it possible to establish nursing as a profession with qualified training: above all, and at a time when well-bred young ladies had little chance of finding a job, it was the English diplomat's daughter Florence Nightingale who Dark Century of Nursing "put an end to it. Famed for her care during the Crimean War, she opened a nursing school with donations and remained a senior adviser to senior management. Florence Nightingale is rightly described as the founder of modern nursing. Towards the end of the 19th and in the first decades of the 20th century, many nursing schools were established and the education was regulated by law. Occupational profile: The "Certified Health and Nursing Officer" (the "Certified Nurse") is responsible for the nursing part of the health-promoting, preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative measures for the maintenance or restoration of health and for the prevention of diseases. This includes the care and support of people of all ages in physical and mental illness, the care and support of the disabled, the seriously ill and the dying, as well as participation in rehabilitation, primary health care, promotion of health and disease prevention. The 3-year training takes place at a health and nursing school and concludes with a diploma.
