GDR shipbuilding The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues six special postage stamps with illustrations of ship types being built in the GDR. Shipbuilding in the German Democratic Republic Shipbuilding in the GDR has developed into a high-performance, export-intensive industry during its twenty-year existence. The annual output of about 10,000 GRT (1949) has risen steadily and will exceed the 350,000 GRT limit (1971). The GDR shipbuilding is currently in third place in the world in fishing vessel construction. Dry cargo ships, special ships and fishing vessels are exported to 20 countries, including the Soviet Union, the largest customer and others. Countries like France, India and England count. The following ship types are shown on this special postage stamp issue: 25-pfennig value transport and processing ship "Junge Welt" The ship is used as a factory mother ship in the flotilla association with feeder trawlers and serves as a control center for the operation and maintenance of the fishing fleet , The acquired catches are processed to fillet, fishmeal, fish oil and liver oil and deep-frozen. The diesel-electric drive system guarantees optimum utilization of the ship's energy reserves and mobility in accordance with the conditions of use.
