Earth and sky globes from the State Mathematical-Physical Salon in Dresden The State Mathematical-Physical Salon - emerged from the Saxon Art Chamber founded in 1560 shows numerous world-famous collections with valuable instruments, scientific tools and craft treasures from history in its exhibition rooms in the Zwinger of the natural sciences. Among them are the unique holdings of earth and sky goblins exhibited in 10 large display cabinets, whose versatile constructions with different figurative statements provide a comprehensive overview of the geographic and astronomical knowledge of past centuries with the possibilities of cartographic representation at that time. Among the rare globe clocks of the 16th century is the handicraft and mechanical masterpiece by Jost Bürgi, depicted on the 20 Pfennig mark, which also built the famous Kreuzschlag watches for their astronomical measurements for Johannes Kepler and Tycho Brahe. Again, a superimposed drive mechanism is housed in the ball interior to rotate the globe ball engraved with the star symbols.
