Earth and Sky Globes The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multicolored special postage stamps depicting earth and sky globes from the State Mathematical-Physics Salon in Dresden. Earth and sky globes from the State Mathematical-Physical Salon in Dresden The State Mathematical-Physical Salon - emerged from the Saxon Art Chamber founded in 1560 shows numerous world-famous collections with valuable instruments, scientific tools and craft treasures from history in its exhibition rooms in the Zwinger of the natural sciences. Among them are the unique holdings of earth and sky goblins exhibited in 10 large display cabinets, whose versatile constructions with different figurative statements provide a comprehensive overview of the geographic and astronomical knowledge of past centuries with the possibilities of cartographic representation at that time. The 15 Pfennig mark shows a gilt globe clock signed in 1586, a work of the two Augsburg masters Georg Roll and Johannes Reinhold. This almost 60 cm high work of art, equipped with horizon ring and calendar tire, with armillary sphere, compass, earth globe and four horizontal sundials, is a special treasure of the Dresden Globus collection. A clockwork for the eight-day duration with quarter and hour strike inside the celestial sphere moves it around its axis in 24 hours and at the same time enables the numerous astronomical and calendrical indications.
