"Design Austria" is the name of an interest group of Austrian designers founded 75 years ago. In addition, there is the professional association of graphic designers, illustrators and product designers as well as the Austrian Institute for Forming, but more concerned with passing on the designer experience the economy - of course for mutual benefit - endeavors. Design could be defined as designing and molding commodities according to aesthetic and functional criteria. Design also includes all design in our world, related to objects, products, fashion, temporary events, architecture and so on. The presentation on this brand, the popular chair No. 14 from the Thonet production, points to the beginnings in the 19th century, when with the onset of an industrial production in the first place, the condition for what we understand by design. From said armchair from 1859 to 1930 a total of 50 million pieces were produced. A prime example of our theme is the building and furnishings of the Austrian Postal Savings Bank in Vienna. It was designed by the architect Otto Wagner as a total work of art, built in 1904-1906 with specially designed aluminum equipment and furnished with bentwood furniture of the brothers Thonet, which until today u.a. standing in the large cash hall of the Postsparkasse in use and admired.
