The motif of the brand shows the landscape near the town of Kaub am Rhein with the castles Gutenfels and Pfalzgrafenstein. The former, owned by the Falkensteiner family, was built at the beginning of the 13th century and is first mentioned in documents in 1257. After being besieged unsuccessfully in 1504 by Landgrave Wilhelm von Hessen, she got her name. The so-called Palatinate in the Rhine was built only for economic purposes, namely as a customs station in 1327. A special feature is that it stands on a rock in the Rhine to ensure the control of the ships that cross the river. The building consists of a pentagonal tower with six storeys and a 12 meter high wall with two battlements running one above the other. After several changes of ownership, it has belonged to Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 and was used as signal tower for Rhine ships until the 1960s. Today, the Palatinate can be visited in the Rhine, after it was completely renovated in 1970. The catalog numbers 18, 19, 22, 23, 25, 27, 28 and 29 appeared in June and July and August 1948 respectively.
