The stamp shows Charlemagne as goldsmith work of the Aachen Karlsschreins. The King of the Franks and later Roman emperors was born on 2 April 742. He ruled altogether from 768 to 814, first with his brother. After he was sole ruler of the Franks from 771, he conquered large parts of the West. Among others, the Lombard kingdom, Saxony and Bavaria are among his conquests. On December 25, 800, Pope Leo III crowned him. to the Roman emperor. In addition to many cultural institutions, he set up a school at every bishopric to promote general education. Charlemagne died on January 28, 814 in Aachen.
