This stamp shows the German local poet Johann Peter Hebel, who was born on 10 May 1760 in Basel. After he had become a teacher in Karlsruhe in 1791, he wrote his cheerful Alemannic poems (1803) out of homesickness and summarized other humorous works in his treasure chest of the Rhenish house friend in 1811. Hebel died on September 22, 1826 in Schwetzingen. (The catalog numbers 28 to 37 appeared in November and December 1948 and January 1949. For the sake of systematics, the editors recorded the issue dates of 1 November and 1 December 1948 and 1 January 1949).
