The special postage stamp series "Christmas" presents in 2019 a church window of the cathedral Notre-Dame of Chartres in France. The stained glass windows of the church, which dates from the High Gothic period, are among the oldest and best preserved stained glass windows in the world. The motif used is a detail of the so-called humanization window, which is located on the west façade of the cathedral consecrated in 1160. In the lower right corner of the large window is the scene that forms the basis for this year's stamp issue. The curtains on the left and right open to show an event that Christians all over the world celebrate every year on 25 December: the birth of the Saviour. Mary and Joseph lying in the puerperium at her side can be seen in the picture section at the front left and right. Mary points to the Child Jesus in the manger, while the ox and donkey in the background give the Child Jesus their warmth and welcome to the world.
