In accordance with a wish of the Bund Deutscher Philatelisten e.V., the Deutsche Bundespost has been issuing special stamps for the "Stamp Day" for a number of years. This highlights the importance of philately as a demanding pastime for millions of people. Every year around 150 stamp exhibitions take place in the Federal territory; Week after week, philatelists meet at about 400 bartering events. In 1978, the Association of German Philatelists e.V. celebrated in its national associations at 10 central events throughout Germany the "Day of the Stamp" on October 29, 1978 with stamp exhibitions, to which there are special cancellations. In conjunction with this year's special stamp for "Stamp Day", the Bund Deutscher Philatelisten e.V. organizes its 32nd Bundestag and the 79th German Philatelist Day in Frankfurt am Main from October 12 to 15, 1978. At these events, the philately will give an account of the past year and announce the program for the coming year. At international level, 53 international philatelic associations have joined together to form a worldwide philatelic organization, the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP). This top-level organization sets the organized philatelic program in its annual congresses. The Federal Republic of Germany will be the conference country of the FIP Congress in 1980. An important meeting point for philatelists from all over the world this year is the 2nd International Stamp Fair in Essen (November 1-5, 1978), which is under the patronage of the Federal Minister of Posts and Telecommunications.
