The representation of the eighth value of the ten-part stamp series for the respective "Stamp Day" from 1991 to 2000 is as appealing as it is unusual: a marvelous mythical creature, easily attributed to the many-sided kin of dragons, surrounds and presents the letters "R" and "L" in a very idiosyncratic way, the third to last letters of the philatelists all the hearted concepts "stamp" and "philately". The present miniature of Prof. Otto Stefferl revives first the imaginary world that is linked in our culture with the sight of such mythical creatures. The legendary dragons, as powerful and terrifying creatures, as powers always superior to supremacy, as cunning tempters and destroyers in ordered orders, can not be sought only on water, on land and in the air. Certain human behaviors justify the assumption that, symbolically speaking, more or less little dragons are hidden in each of us. But luckily - and also the legends and fables teach us that - the dragon-figures we know, in whatever form they appear, are not insurmountable. With these and similar considerations, Otto Stefferl's little fiend undoubtedly ensures that even in philately, the "action" that is always emanating from dragons is not neglected!
