The stamp was introduced 140 years ago in Austria. Since then, the fascination of small works of art has captivated millions of collectors. Already in 1934, the idea to promote the philately, annually and worldwide to celebrate a day of the stamp, by the Berlin Major a.D. Hans von Rudolphi was born. The World Association of Philately took up this idea and decided in 1936 to declare the 7th of January the day of the stamp. This special postage stamp from the year 1990 represents a collection of motifs, which came about through a selection in the context of a competition at the Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Vienna.
