The stamp motif is taken from the centerpiece of an uncoloured lithograph by Carl Schuster from 1841. The original, of which there is a print in the Postal Museum in Vienna, is arranged transversely oval and framed with pictorial representations of old and contemporary transport facilities. The picture itself bears the inscription "Der Postmeister" in the lower part of the frame. When the first "post-pioneers" in the Habsburg lands put people into their service to maintain a post office in certain places and to forward incoming mail from there to the neighboring stations, these forerunners of today's post offices ran almost exclusively mail. In addition to the parcel post service and the regular passenger transport came in the 18th century in motion. Since Emperor Karl VI. In July 1722, the postal system had been nationalized, resulting in increased obligations for the state administration. Maria Theresia, Regent of the Austrian Erbländer, supplemented the classic letter post service by the parcel service (Fahrpost) and 1749 by the passenger transport. Postal courses should be set up on the main routes. On July 1, 1749, the first time a trip from Vienna to Prague took place in the wake of these innovations.
