The Montjurreglement of 1838 had expressly provided a gala and a service uniform for Postillione. The Zweispitz pictured on the stamp belonged to the Galamontur. It was from 1838 on visit of "senior men" from the house of the Imperial family or from the public administration to wear. The regulations describe the Zweispitz very briefly. He is described in it as a low hat with black plume. The so-called plume was actually made of horsehair, glued on top and buttoned. The original of the hat on the stamp is made of black felt. The original of the pictured Posthorn was practically never used. It was intended to serve as a specimen along with another because it was intended to be awarded as a "Honorary Postcard Horn" for Postillione with special merit. However, the regulation required for this award never came out, possibly because the horn was made too expensive. The three-wind posthorn made of brass was for the most part silvered, the mouthpiece and inside of the cone are gold plated.
