In the heart of Austria lies the Salzkammergut. Great in landscape and economically, not only because of its position in mining, which dates back to prehistoric times, but also today because of its outstanding importance for tourism. The wealth of the area due to the salt mining helped her to name a whole epoch - the Hallstatt culture. One of the loveliest lakes in the Salzkammergut is the Wolfgangsee. On its shore is St. Gilgen, whose Postbus station is shown on this special stamp. The place is today one of the most important tourist resorts in Salzburg and has the most Ausländerächtigungen the Salzkammergut. At its favorable location on the Wolfgangsee comes the neighborhood of the 1522 meter high Zwölferhorn, which is a popular ski area in winter. After the closure of the Salzkammergut locomotive lift in 1957, all traffic had to be handled by road, so that the post office was able to expand its postal network. St. Gilgen lies at the intersection of three bus lines and is frequented by one and a half million passengers per year. But what few people know, the St. Gilgen are still proud of this: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's mother grew up here.
