On a dark background, the stamp motif shows a panel adorned with ornament on the left and right, which adorns a horn of plenty with stylized flowers and a posthorn. In the lower half of the board, the cornucopia is covered by an envelope bearing the inscription "Stamp Day 1956", with the special postage stamp issued for the occasion and stamped with a place and date stamp of the post office Vienna 1 of 1. XII. 1956 is canceled. The Austrian philatelists also traditionally celebrated the Stamp Day in 1956 on the first Sunday in December, December 2, 1956, with numerous events and lectures on the meaning and purpose of philately. Due to the large number of issued stamps and the various depictions on them, the philatelists were encouraged to create their collections not only by country, but also from other points of view. Thus, special, airmail, motive, postal stationery and stamp collections as well as collections of varieties (perforations, colors etc.) developed. The areas of interest of the stamps, Recozettel etc. became more and more objects of collecting passion. These and many other topics were also content of the celebrations around the day of the stamp 1956.
