Andreas and Wolfgang Linger are a well-rehearsed team not only on the toboggan but also outside the ice channel. The "Linger brothers" from Absam in Tyrol are, at least since their Olympic victory four years ago in Turin, a well-known term in the world of sport; her successful title defense at this year's Vancouver Olympic Games, her second Olympic gold, made them true superstars. At the traditional day of sport on the Vienna Heroes' Square, the likeable sledders are now awarded their own stamp. Andreas Linger, born in 1981, and Wolfgang Linger, born in 1982, both graduated from the Sports Gymnasium in Innsbruck; Afterwards, they switched to the Armed Forces, where as top athletes they receive the necessary support for their hard training routine. With the qualification for the Salt Lake City Olympics (2002) began the unprecedented career of the young Tyrolean. Just one year later, in February 2003, they became world champion in the double-seater competition in Sigulda (Latvia). In addition, several World Cup victories go to her account, two silver and bronze medals at European Championships and last but not least the title "European Champion" last winter. However, the culmination of her sporting achievements and the basis of her great popularity is undoubtedly her two-time triumph at the 2006 and 2010 Olympics. "Sport has always been an important part of my life and motivating myself has never been hard for me," says Andreas Linger. "I enjoy moving and I love the athletic competition." The motto of the ambitious athlete is clear: "I just try to cover every single bit of my way every day." His younger brother Wolfgang, however, draws his strength from the Nature: "It is particularly important for me to distance myself from the stressed society." He does not want to see what he does as an annoying obligation, but to do it with full commitment. "Of course, both private and in sports goals for my future life, but I believe that it is important to direct his thoughts to the moment," Wolfgang Linger is convinced. That they succeed in doing so in a bravura way, proved the popular athletes in many millisecond thrillers in the various ice channels.
