Every year on 6th November a traditional pilgrimage takes place in Bad Tölz: the so-called Leonhardi ride. Its roots are in pre-Christian times. Since 1856, the pilgrimage takes place in an organized form and has become a popular folk festival. It is organized in honor of the horse and cattle patron saint Leonhard. Magnificently decorated riders and carriages move from Bad Tölz to Höhen- or Kalvarienberg and, around the sounds of music bands, they circle the local Leonhardi chapel several times. So the pilgrims ask God's protection and blessing for the house, yard and stable.
