The goal of the Kulturstiftung der Länder, founded on 4 June 1987, is to preserve and promote art and culture. The main aspects of the foundation's work are the securing and the recovery of lost works of art. Representative are the motives selected for the year 2000. Leonhard Kern's (1588-1662) sculpture »The Expulsion from Paradise« (Baroque Small Sculpture) is now located in the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Hamburg. Until 1988 this work was unknown to Kerns.
