From 26 to 29 September 1966, the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) holds its international annual convention in 1966 in Munich. At around the same time, from 24 September, the Deutsche Bundespost is setting up a stamp salon in the city museum of the Bavarian capital, which will be open to everyone and will include some philatelic treasure. These events together form the occasion for the publication of the two stamps, the additions of which will go to the Foundation for the Promotion of Philately and Postal History. In order to find the right appeal to the milieu in which the brands grow and serve, the graphic artists involved in the series were given older and newer portraits of historical messengers, postmen, touring cars and stagecoaches, which they choose freely could use. Prof. Karl Oskar Blase and Erwin Poell each sent a pair of solutions, while Hella and Heinz Schillinger received two series and Reinhart Heinsdorff three series. In addition to some pleasing appearance, which brought the result, liked the motley performances of Hella and Heinz Schillinger in the first place. Their splashy color and their charm, which seems to flow out of a puppet stage, make one feel that they come from the old toy city Nuremberg. Be it human figures in historical disguise, be it other props from the rich history of the post office, which had something to offer to the eye at all times, on all four leaves things are limited by energetically set contours, very consciously into their assigned area placed and put in the right relationship with the script surrounding them. So they are excellent, immaculate brands and still good narrators, but at the same time they are also made for their real task: to be messengers of the festival. The old, heartfelt picture arc glory that once existed in Munich, revived in them. We see the value of 50 + 25 Pf a royal Prussian postman from the first half of the 19th century, on the value of 30 + 15 Pf a Bavarian stagecoach, which was still at the turn of the last century overland. The Federal Minister of Posts and Telecommunications has approved the proposal of the Art Advisory Council. The stamps were produced in multicolor offset printing at Bundesdruckerei Berlin.
