Changes have always shaped political, economic and social processes. But never before has the pace of these changes been as fast as it is today. Globalization, neo-liberal concepts, outsourcing, rationalization, cost minimization are developments that demand new strategies and solution concepts. Concepts that put man at the heart of every development, concepts that embrace progress and do not negate the social component. Change creates opportunities, but also involves risks. The aim of the ÖGB and its trade unions is "security in transition" to provide stability despite changes, orientation despite new ways. Securing and creating jobs from which people can live, and reducing unemployment, are certainly among the most important goals of the ÖGB just before the turn of the millennium. Innovative economic and employment programs must focus on people rather than maximum profit. The social partnership of Austria - the dialogue between employees, employers and the government - should also be realized at European level, so that social development can also begin in Europe. This cross-border dialogue is therefore at the heart of international trade union work.
