From July 3 to 6, 1983, the 68th Annual Conference of Kiwanis International took place in Vienna. Kiwanis is an international association of men in clubs in almost all democratically governed countries of the free world. Kiwani's clubs are a community of friends who, by their motto "we built-we build," are committed to a more humane society and a freer state. Kiwanis gives spiritual values priority over material ones. The establishment of this global community took place on 21 January 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. The name of the club, Kiwanis, comes from the native language and was taken from the expression "Nunc Keewanis". It has several meanings, such as waking up, waking up nature, beginning spring, having time or acting. Today this is generally understood as the "expression of one's own personality". In the foreground of their work, the "Kiwanis" provide humanitarian assistance in all areas of life. On February 25, 1963, the Kiwanis Club Vienna was founded. Thus, Austria was the first country outside of North America, which could be won for the ideas of Kiwanis helpfulness and friendship. The brand image shows the emblem of Kiwanis International and a view of Vienna.
