The fifth congress of the European Association of Urology took place in Vienna from 12 to 15 May 1982. On this occasion, the Austrian Postal and Telegraph Administration issued this special postage stamp. On it a "urine inspection" is shown. It is a reproduction from a manuscript kept in the University Library of Bologna. It is a magnificent codex of Avicenna, the Hebrew Hebrew Canon medicinae, written in Salerno in the 15th century. The special postmark reproduces only a section of the upper third of a very elaborately designed page. The urine inspection was a very popular object of the medieval book illustration. Probably not only because, in addition to pulse measurement, it was the most important diagnostic measure, but also because it gave the artist an opportunity to develop his skill in representing an action. The special postage stamp shows a doctor holding a urine jar in his left hand.
