The special postage stamp series "The Post in Art" was created on the occasion of the XV. World Postal Congress launched in Vienna in 1964. This leitmotiv was chosen because the universality of art also illustrates in a special way the global significance of Swiss Post and expresses the history of Swiss Post well. Every five years, the plenipotentiaries of the nearly 130 member countries of the Universal Postal Union meet to discuss changes and additions to the treaties. In Vienna, 500 delegates discussed 1,200 amendments and additions during the one-and-a-half-month congress. The treaties adopted by the Congress are international treaties that comprise the actual Universal Postal Convention, the international letter service and all international postal services. After 1891, the congress took place for the second time in Vienna, as both Rio de Janeiro and New Delhi had to cancel the invitation because of domestic problems. The completion of this special stamp series, which shows eight motives 200 years of technical development, forms Adalbert Pilch's picture "Post Office Saalbach".
