In 1945, the professional international of book printers, bookbinders and lithographers in Stockholm joined forces to form the International Graphical Federation (IGF). It has set itself the task of preserving the economic, professional and ideological interests of the graphic workers of all countries and promoting their togetherness. The IGF holds its ordinary congress every three years. After Stockholm, Bournemouth, Lucerne, Munich and Oslo was chosen as the venue for the sixth congress Vienna, where he took place from 12 to 17 October 1964. The International Graphical Federation has members from 24 countries and four continents. Thus, the IGF currently has 635,781 members. Around 26,000 members are from Austria. The main focus of the congress in Vienna will be the problem that the role of the graphic arts industry in the economic and social development of a country is generally not fully appreciated. Attention should be drawn to the importance of the graphic arts industry in contributing to raising the general level of knowledge and education, shaping public opinion and developing transport and administrative resources.
