Twenty-five years after the Human Rights Conference in Tehran in 1969, another World Conference on Human Rights was convened. Due to an invitation of the Austrian Federal Government, the General Assembly of the United Nations decided on the venue Vienna. The conference took place from 14 to 25 June 1993 in the Austria Center Vienna. One of the key objectives of this conference was to find ways to improve the implementation of existing human rights standards and to increase the effectiveness of human rights monitoring mechanisms.
