From 6 to 10 April 1981 internationally acclaimed experts met in the Hofburg Palace for the "3rd European Regional Conference on Rehabilitation International". This conference was under the patronage of the Federal President and was organized by the General Accident Insurance Institute. In 1981, declared by the UN to be the "Year of the Disabled", this major event was an important forum for discussions and expert discussions on the general theme, "The Disabled in Society". Rehabilitation International has set itself the task of researching targeted measures for the prevention of physical and mental disabilities and to intensify the medical, social and professional rehabilitation of disabled people. The special postage stamp issued by the Austrian Post and Telegraph Administration shows a wheelchair user on a machine tool. This should underline the importance of the vocational and social reintegration of disabled people into our society.
