Meritorious Personalities of the German Workers 'Movement The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues two special postage stamps depicting meritorious personalities of the German workers' movement. Special cancellation from 16 January to 15 March 1990 Meritorious figures of the German workers' movement Bruno Leuschner Born on August 12, 1910 in Rixdorf near Berlin. The son of a shoemaker learned from 1925 to 1928 the profession of an industrial clerk. During the apprenticeship he joined the Central Association of Employees. 1930-1931 studied at the Marxist Workers' School, MASCH, where he acquired basic knowledge of Marxism-Leninism. He joined the KPD in 1931. During the fascist dictatorship in Germany he took part in the organization of the anti-fascist resistance struggle in the years 1933 to 1936 as a member of the subdivision of the KPD in Berlin-Neukölln and Berlin-Wedding. Arrested in 1936, he was imprisoned in various prisons and concentration camps. Bruno Leuschner was one of the activists of the first hour after the liberation from fascism. As head of the Department of Economic Policy in the Central Committee of the German Communist Party, he established at the economic conference of his party on December 29, 1945, the draft guidelines for economic policy, in which u. a. the deprivation of monopoly capital and economic planning were required. After founding the SED, Bruno Leuschner headed the economy department of the party executive committee. In March 1948 appointed Deputy Chairman of the German Economic Commission. Since 1949 Member of the People's Chamber of the GDR. Delegate to the III. - VI. Party Congress of the SED. Member of the SED Central Committee since 1950, candidate for the 1953-1958 and since 1958 member of his Politburo. From 1952 to 1961 Chairman of the State Planning Commission. 1960-1963 member of the State Council of the GDR. Since 1952, Bruno Leuschner represented the GDR in the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance; he championed the close economic cooperation between the socialist states. From 1962 he worked as a permanent representative of the GDR in the executive committee of the RGW. Bruno Leuschner died on February 10, 1965 in Berlin.
