750 years Berlin The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues four special postage stamps and four miniature sheets "750 years Berlin". The miniature sheets each contain two rows of two special postage stamps. Special cancellation from 17 February to 16 April 1987 750th anniversary of the city of Berlin (1987 edition) The capital of the GDR Berlin presents itself in 1987 with a jubilee program that covers all areas of social life in the city. From the beginning of the year to the end of the year, it will be a good host to all guests from the districts of the GDR and visitors from all over the world. With the construction of three new urban districts in the northeast of the city since 1976 in the open field many destroyed by the effects of war historical, buildings and ensembles have emerged in the old city center, so the area around the Nikolaikirche, the Academy Square, parts of the traditional Friedrichstraße or Residential quarters in the old working class district Prenzlauer Berg. Berlin construction workers, in close cooperation with builders from all districts of the GDR, daily perform new services for the worthy design of the city, to the benefit of the citizens, to the jubilee. This is how Berlin presents itself daily in an appealing way. What has been created so far is part of the festive events in 1987. It forms the scene of the historic markets, city district festivals, major cultural events and parades, becoming the meeting place of the festival participants. Out of the large number of these buildings, four of the most distinctive and typical of Berlin were selected as the template for the special postage stamps. 20 Pfennig value: The Ephraim Palace in the historic Nikolaiviertel Once proverbially most beautiful house of Berlin, it will continue its so far 250 years old, varied history, after reopening in May 1987 with a further chapter. The palace had been demolished in 1936 because of the construction of the Berlin Mühlendamm lock. It changed since 1700 often the owner and served as a pharmacy and newspaper office, police headquarters or municipal residents' registration office. The house has been given its current shape by the banker and coin master Veitel Ephraim since 1761. Today, his faithful replica stands twelve meters from the old site.
