He had less success as a playwright. Ludwig Uhland is one of the founders of Germanic science. He was a literary researcher and publisher, has worked on the German poetry of the 15th and 16th centuries and on the legendary history of Germanic and Roman peoples and 1844/45 the collection "Old high and low German folk songs" published. He studied law and philology, worked as a lawyer and civil servant, became professor of philology in Tübingen in 1829 and became a member of the state parliament. In 1833 he wrote a "Call for Freedom of the Press" and remained faithful to his oppositional attitude, even under difficult circumstances. In 1848 he worked as a representative of the liberal left in the Frankfurt Paulskirche, followed the rump parliament to Stuttgart and was still successful against the martial law in Baden. Later he lived in seclusion with his scientific work, without abandoning his popular progressive attitude. To the right of the portrait are three of Uhland's popular songs.
