750 years Berlin The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues a special postage stamp block "750 Years Berlin". Special cancellation from 8th September to 7th November 1987 750 years Berlin For October 28, 1987, the date of the first documentary mention of the city of Berlin, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the GDR is the highlight of the celebrations after previous issues of special postage stamps and Postal stationery concludes a special postage stamp block out. For the collector of postage stamps and postal documents, a historically oriented philatelic material is thus provided whose topic-related statement in this diversity is so far unique. It does justice to the high significance of the event, which radiates far beyond the borders of the GDR. In this sense, it particularly appeals to the interested historical conscious participants and guests who, together with the citizens of Berlin in 1987 in large numbers of the demonstration of this city as a place of progress and world peace, the joie de vivre and certainty of the future have and still become. The block shows a part of the "Ernst-Thälmann-Park" completed in 1986 with a monument created by the Soviet sculptor Lew Kerbel of the German workers' leader and internationalist Ernst Thälmann, murdered in 1944 by SS barbarians. The monument rises in monumental size in the middle of a newly built park and residential area in the working class district Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin. The legacy of Ernst Thalmann as an indomitable fighter against fascism and war for a working-class life in the security of a socialist society is thus given due recognition in the GDR and its capital, Berlin.
